The 19th chess championship of the International Railway Sports Association was held from 4th to 9th July 2016 in St. Petersburg in the New Peterhof hotel. For the first time in history it was held under the auspices of FIDE. It was attended by 14 teams: Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, India, Kazakhstan, Norway, Russia and Switzerland.

There have been played five rounds for three gaming days, the results of which determined the winner in team ranking. First place in the tournament was taken by the team of India. Russian railway men took the second place and representatives of Deutsche Bahn – the third.
In the awarding ceremony participated: President of the World Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the first Vice President of Czech Railways Ludvik Urban, head of October railways Vladimir Goloskokov, acting President of USIC Dominique Paget, President of RAA Lokomotiv Ilya Vdovin and the 14th world chess champion Alexander Khalifman.

FIDE President K. Ilyumzhinov in his address to the participants highlighted the oldest chess player of the championship Norwegian Edmund Forselv. After all the veteran of USIC chess movement has played his first USIC championship in 1962.
Also K. Ilyumzhinov has held talks on further cooperation between FIDE, RAA Lokomotiv and USIC. «We will continue to support USIC championship. This is a wonderful competition which involves the true fans of our game» – said K. Ilyumzhinov.
